Oxford Journals, a division of Oxford University Press, has become one of the first STM publishers to achieve ISO 9001:2008 certification for the operations side of its business. ISO 9001:2008 is the internationally recognised standard for quality management and relates to the processes that create and control the products and services an organisation supplies.
In order to gain the ISO 9001:2008 standard Oxford Journals had to demonstrate that it had a quality management programme that enables it to continually improve its service to customers.
The processes involved in taking journal manuscripts from acceptance, though copyediting and typesetting to publication online and in print, are included in the quality management programme, as are the services that provide support to Oxford Journals' global customer base including librarians, consortia, societies, authors, and subscription agents. The inclusion of the Oxford Journals IT function in the quality management programme ensures that the software and systems used to manage online content provide a good quality of service to customers.
