DMAA: The Care Continuum Alliance and publisher Mary Ann Liebert Inc, US, have announced that the journal Disease Management will be called Population Health Management, starting with the August 2008 issue. The new title is designed to better reflect the expanding scope of chronic disease care and the impact of economic, social, cultural, and environmental factors on health care systems and practices.
With the new name comes a broadened approach to exploring the changes in strategy, implementation and policy needed to improve overall health care and quality of life. To mark the name change, DMAA and Mary Ann Liebert are making the entire August issue available at no charge online at www.liebertpub.com/pop.
Although disease management will continue to be a critical component of population health improvement, it represents only one tool required for improving health care quality, access, and outcomes at the population level. Other elements include resource management, clinical guidelines, compliance strategies, information technology, and health economics. In addition to these topics, original research papers published in Population Health Management will focus on outcomes assessment, clinical process reengineering, provider incentives, quality, and return on investment.
