Online publishing services provider Semantico Ltd., UK, has completed an upgrade of SAMS, its industry-leading access management system, on sites created for its client Koninklijke Brill NV, to provide the Shibboleth access mechanism for scholarly publishing. This is one of a number of Shibboleth implementations that Semantico has undertaken for leading global publishers in recent months. These deployments signal a growing mainstream acceptance of the Shibboleth protocol.
Over the last five years, Semantico has worked closely with Brill to develop a range of sophisticated online publications to match the complexity of the publisher's academic publishing output. The company has also developed the online site for Martinus Nijhoff Publishers (MNP), an imprint of Brill, whose portfolio focuses on areas in Public International Law, Human Rights, and Humanitarian Law.
Using SAMS, Semantico has successfully designed and implemented access management systems on behalf of many major international publishers, and manages the access control of some of the world's busiest and most successful product sites. Growth of its large installed base has been aided by its flexibility in covering access models for journals, e-books, reference works, directories and scholarly publishing. The largest SAMS deployment handles more than 5 million authentication requests per month, and over 20 million API requests.
