Association of American University Presses names new President -

Association of American University Presses (AAUP) has announced that Temple University Press Director, Alex Holzman, will assume leadership of the Association for the year 2008-09. He succeeds Sanford Thatcher, Director of Penn State University Press, who remains on the association's board. The announcement was made at the AAUP's annual meeting in Montreal.

A 22-year veteran of the university press community, Holzman has been a member of the AAUP Board of Directors since 2004 and chaired the Annual Meeting Programme Committee in 1999-2000. Holzman joined Temple University Press in 2003, and as Director has increased the press's title output and development efforts, worked to establish a production workflow incorporating electronic files, and become an active participant in the larger university community, advising faculty and library staff on scholarly publishing topics.

Established in 1937, AAUP promotes the work and influence of university presses, provides cooperative marketing opportunities, and helps its 128 member presses fulfill their common commitments to scholarship, the academy, and society. The president of AAUP serves as a spokesperson for and an advocate of university presses and works with the executive director and board of directors to set the direction and immediate goals of the organisation.
