Portico seeks community input on preservation of DOAJ journals -

Non-profit electronic archiving service provider Portico, US, has announced that as the number of Open Access journals continues to increase, it has been approached by several librarians to expand its preservation work with Open Access publishers. Portico already preserves nearly 350 Open Access titles from its current publisher participants. The service is seeking support from librarians to identify additional titles of greatest concern.

Portico is inviting librarians to visit the Portico website and fill out a simple feedback form to share their top ten preservation priorities from the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ). With this feedback, the company seeks to prioritise its efforts and begin working to preserve DOAJ titles that are projected to be of importance to librarians. All responses should reach by September 30, 2009, to initiate publisher outreach during the 4th quarter of this year.

Over 10,000 e-journals and 27,000 e-books from 75 publishers on behalf of more than 2,000 societies and associations have already been entrusted to the Portico archive.
