The International Association of Scientific, Technical & Medical Publishers (STM) has announced that its annual Spring conference will be held at the LeMeridien in Cambridge Massachusetts from April 27 – 29, 2010. This year’s conference is titled ‘Users, customers, practitioners & librarians talk – Publishers are you listening?’
The annual STM Spring conference is expected to bring together those working with, relying on, and investing in, the high-level information STM member organisations provide. Topics include: the pressures to publish and whether new channels and media are changing the process. Is it still Publish or Perish?; patron driven acquisitions; user behavior & industry trends; one scientist’s wish list for STM publishers; the new contracts: researcher, practitioner, publisher, library; and getting to the content: rethinking publisher models.
Celebrating its 40th year, STM is a broad association of about 100 scholarly publishers. Collectively STM member publishers are responsible for more than 60 percent of the global annual output of research articles, over half the active research journals and the publication of tens of thousands of print and electronic books, reference works, and databases. STM claims to be the only international trade association representing all types of scholarly publishers –large and small companies, not for profit organisations, learned societies, traditional, primary, secondary publishers and new entrants to global publishing.
