ALPSP to host one day seminar on rights management for publishers -

The Association of Learning and Professional Society Publishing (ALPSP) is organising a one day seminar titled ‘Know your Rights. Opportunities and Pitfalls in Content Licensing.’ Scheduled for January 27, 2010, the seminar will be chaired by Philip Shaw, Managing Director, Hodder Education Tertiary Publishing and Health Sciences.

This seminar will cover key aspects of secondary rights for small to medium sized publishers who are looking to fully exploit the content they publish, whether in their own books and journals or those published under licence. The speakers will review the most important sources of rights income and the various issues which the publisher should consider before deciding to offer rights to third parties. These include copyright considerations, brand visibility, and future own-brand online offerings amongst others.

The event is aimed at those with direct responsibility for rights management within Books and Journals publishers, and Managing Editors and Commissioning staff in publishing houses who are required to propose and justify publications on the basis of their financial performance, which increasingly will take into account revenue streams other than direct and trade sales.
