STM publisher Elsevier, Netherlands, has announced that it has won four major awards and six honorable mentions from the Professional and Scholarly Publishing (PSP) Division of the Association of American Publishers (AAP).
Elsevier’s BrainNavigator, an online, interactive, 3D software tool developed in collaboration with the Allen Institute for Brain Science was named the winner of the PROSE Award in the eProduct/Best in Biological & Life Sciences category. BrainNavigator maps brain images and anatomy, helping neuroscience researchers save time, improve the quality of their daily research and view the brain in new and enlightening ways.
Receiving top honours in the Mathematics category was Elsevier’s Handbook of Statistical Analysis and Data Mining Applications, by Robert Nisbet, John Elder and Gary Miner, which is a comprehensive professional handbook which guides one through all stages of data analysis, model building and implementation.
Neuroeconomics: Decision Making in the Brain, by Paul W. Glimcher, Colin Camerer, Russell Poldrack and Ernst Fehr, received the Award for Excellence in Social Sciences, as well as being the winner in the Economics category. The publication is the first edited reference to examine the science behind neuroeconomics, including how it influences human behavior and societal decision making from a behavioral economics point of view.
Elsevier also received six honorable mentions in the Clinical Medicine category; Nursing & Allied Health category; Multivolume Reference/Science category; and Art & Art History category.
The PROSE awards were named by a panel of 16 judges representing PSP member companies such as Wiley-Blackwell and Harvard University Press, as well as representatives from major educational institutions and libraries such as University of Toronto and Columbia University.
Started in 1976, the PROSE Awards annually recognise the very best in professional and scholarly publishing by bringing attention to distinguished books, journals and electronic content. This year’s competition received 441 entries, more than ever before in the award competition’s history.
