The Optical Society (OSA) has announced that Govind Agrawal and Xi-Cheng Zhang have been named the new editors-in-chief of Advances in Optics and Photonics and Optics Letters, respectively. Agrawal, a professor of optics and physics at the University of Rochester, will serve as the second editor of Advances in Optics and Photonics since the journal's launch in 2009. Zhang, who is the director of the Rochester Institute of Optics and is the M. Parker Givens Professor of Optics at the University of Rochester, will serve as Optics Letters' seventh editor.
Advances in Optics and Photonics launched in 2009 and publishes peer-reviewed review articles on topics ranging from advances in optics and photonics to fundamental science to engineering applications. Agrawal succeeds Bahaa Saleh of the University of Central Florida who served as the editor since the journal's launch. The journal was recently indexed in Thomson Reuters'® Web of Science™, the Scientific, Technical and Medical publishing industry's leading citation database and is expected to receive its first Impact Factor in June 2014.
Optics Letters is published twice a month and provides rapid dissemination of new results in all areas of optics and photonics with short, original, peer-reviewed communications. The articles often describe research-in-progress, thus reflecting the leading edge in optics and photonics. In 2013, the journal increased its page limit from three to four pages to give authors the space they requested to expand on their experimental and theoretical approaches, draw links to other related work and include a more extensive reference list to put their work into better context. With an Impact Factor of 3.385, Optics Letters is among the top-ranked journals in Thomson Reuters' Journal Citation Reports Optics category.
