Ariadne, a US-based provider of bioinformatics software, has announced that the National Cancer Institute (NCI) has renewed its licence for Ariadne's Pathway Studio Enterprise software. Pathway, which includes the ResNet Mammalian database and Ariadne MedScan text processing technology for site-wide use, is an integrated data-mining and visualisation software. Available in desktop and enterprise versions along with therapeutic-focused databases, it seeks to allow organisations and researchers to rapidly extract relevant facts and relationships from large document collections and build focused knowledgebases.
It has been observed that though researchers have access to a wide range of information, extracting actionable knowledge or intelligence from this data is often difficult. Ariadne expects to help NCI researchers capture, curate and dispense its bioinformatics expertise in support of NCI's scientific innovation.
Pathway Studio is projected to offer researchers the ability to create new cancer disease pathways and develop mechanistic rationale for disease based on molecular facts from public data and the latest research findings recovered using MedScan. In addition, it seeks to support interdepartmental and institutional data sharing and integration of research findings as well as experimental data to augment the understanding of the molecular basis of cancer.
Pathway Studio's workflow approach is said to allow researchers to mine, integrate, analyse and visualise results individually or as an integrated workflow. Each step can be saved, then updated or modified as new information becomes available. Separate analyses can be combined or intersected for advanced applications and discovery.
