Roberta Shaffer named new ICSTI President -

The International Council for Scientific & Technical Information (ICSTI) has announced the appointment of Roberta Shaffer, The Law Librarian of the Library of Congress, USA, as the Council's new President. R.Sivadas, CEO of Scope e-Knowledge Center (Publishers of Knowledgespeak), will take charge as the new Vice President. The announcement was made at the recently concluded Annual General Meeting at Helsinki.

Other office bearers elected are: Wendy Warr of Wendy Warr Associates, U.K, as General Secretary, and Pam Bjornson, CEO of the Canadian Institute of Scientific & technical Information - CISTI, as Treasurer. While Roberta Shaffer will continue to Chair the Information Policy Committee (IPC), Brian Hitson of the US Department of Energy will be the Chair of the Technical Activities Coordinating Committee (TACC).

ICSTI offers a forum for interaction between organisations that create, disseminate and use scientific and technical information. Some of its prominent members include the National Libraries of Science & technology of over a dozen countries, large publishers and scientific associations besides software companies, secondary publishers and service providers who have an interest in the creation and dissemination of scientific and technical information.

ICSTI is also at the forefront of knowledge sharing in the STM information area. Its Technical Activities Coordinating Committee coordinates knowledge sharing in areas of interest, most recent examples being use of mobile technology and multimedia search and retrieval.
