Society for General Microbiology launches new OA journal, JMM Case Reports -

The Society for General Microbiology (SGM) has announced the launch of JMM Case Reports, its first new journal in almost 50 years. The new journal is open access and online-only, publishing original case reports on medical, dental and veterinary microbiology and infectious diseases.

JMM Case Reports is the SGM’s first fully gold open access publication. The journal follows a continuous publishing model, ensuring that the final version of each article is published and citable within four weeks of acceptance.

The new journal's joint Editors-in-Chief are Professor S. Peter Borriello, from the Veterinary Medicines Directorate (UK), and Dr Johannes G. Kusters, from the University Medical Centre at the University of Utrecht.

In addition to the Editors-in-Chief, JMM Case Reports has appointed an eminent and international Editorial Board, including Dr Robert Hall as US Executive Editor.

The first case report in the new journal was published on January 23, 2014. It describes the diagnosis and treatment of a 1-year-old girl with hypocomplementemic urticarial vasculitis syndrome (HUVS), a disease common in adults, but very rare in children. It can be read at http://jmmcr.sgmjournals.org/content/1/1/1.1.full.
