The Frankfurt Book Fair, a subsidiary of the German Publishers & Booksellers Association, has announced that STM, academic publishing and specialist information companies will be exhibiting at the Fair between October 6-10. The Frankfurt Book Fair, Hall 4.2 has reportedly made a name for itself as the place to exhibit at the Fair for established STM and academic publishers, as well as providers of electronic services.
Apart from STM, academic publishing and specialist information companies, there are various trade visitors in these and related fields who visit Hall 4.2 every day of the Fair. These include information scientists, librarians, university publishers, information providers, as well as other service providers for specialist publishers and libraries. A total of 400 exhibitors will be exhibiting this year.
For several years, Hall 4.2 has also become home to numerous entities from the education sector. A new attraction for providers of innovative education tools and their clients is the Education Hot Spot, one of two new collective stands for new technologies in this Hall.
The Frankfurt Hot Spots are exhibition platforms at the Frankfurt Book Fair designed for technology and digital companies. The Fair is looking to make it easier for technology companies to connect with publishing professionals and find new digital opportunities at these technology-driven collective stands.
The second new exhibition platform is the Information Management Hot Spot, which will be used by software providers in the fields of specialist information, the sciences and libraries. Replacing the previous Forum Innovation as an event venue, the new Hot Spot is located in close proximity to the Digital Market Place, which is also dedicated to innovative forms of electronic information transfer.
The key topic amongst this year's exhibitors and at the Fair events is mobile content, that is, applications for the Apple iPhone and iPad (as well as other tablet PCs). These include the respective business models and their worldwide market chances. As a promising new media channel, the iPad in particular has inspired the creativity of product developers in the field of specialist information.
The Book Fair in Hall 4.2 will discuss how the future of mobile content is likely to shape up. For instance, De Gruyter is giving a presentation on the iPad and iPhone versions of "Pschyrembel", the standard reference book for German medical literature. Thieme Verlag is giving a presentation of the Prometheus index card app of human anatomy.
