Scientific publisher Nature Publishing Group has called for nominations for the 2010 Nature Awards for Mentoring in Science. The 2010 awards focus on Canada. Two prizes of C$10,000 will be awarded - one for mid-career and one for lifetime achievement. Nominations close on June 30, 2010.
Nominees may work in any discipline within the natural sciences, and should be resident in Canada. They may nominate themselves or be nominated by colleagues and ex-colleagues. Nominations for a candidate must include independent testimonials by at least five researchers mentored by their nominee, not all over the same period.
Launched in 2005, the annual Nature Awards for Mentoring in Science recognises outstanding scientific mentorship, and focuses on a specific country or countries each year. In previous years the Nature Awards have highlighted top-notch mentors in Australia, Germany, Japan, South Africa, and the UK.
The 2010 Nature Awards for Mentoring in Science will be announced at the Canadian Association for Graduate Studies annual meeting in Toronto on November 5, 2010. More details and nomination forms are available on the Nature website at www.nature.com/nature/mentoringawards/canada.
