SAGE and National Library of China agree access to backfile collection -

Academic publisher SAGE has announced a new agreement with the National Library of China which enables access to SAGE’s deep backfiles for over 1425 libraries in China. The National Library of China helps to support the country’s research community with more than 241,100,000 volumes/items, including both Chinese and foreign language publications.

The SAGE Deep Backfile Package provides access to over 380 journals in the fields of business, humanities, social science, and science, technology, and medicine. Dating back to volume 1, issue 1 for all journals through to the last issue of 1998, the Backfile contains more than 32,000 issues; 418,000 articles; and over 4.6 million pages. The national licence enables perpetual access to this content from all public libraries in China.

The SAGE Backfile Package will be available via SAGE’s journals platform, SAGE Journals Online. In 2010 the platform will undergo a major upgrade, with all moving to a next generation platform, supported by HighWire Press’ ‘2.0’ technology (H2O). With most readers now accessing content directly at the article level, this advanced technology brings SJO new functionality designed to keep readers in context as they conduct their research.
