The US' National Federation of Advanced Information Services (NFAIS) is conducting a webinar that will focus on the time constraints and other factors that shape user information seeking behaviour. The webinar is scheduled for December 19 from 11:00 am-12:30 pm EST.
Content providers and librarians alike are reportedly challenged to maximise the discovery and use high-quality information. Users have limited time in which to find the answers they need. In this webinar, Senior Research Scientist Dr. Lynn Silipigni Connaway will draw on multiple surveys performed by the JISC, the Research Information Network (RIN) and OCLC cooperatives to provide insights on various questions. These include - what exactly searchers are using Google for; how much confidence scholars and students have in their own search competency; whether they distinguish between library databases and other online sources; whether simple search is more or less important than 'power browsing'; and what is meant by 'squirreling downloads'.
Dr. Connaway will also address the role that convenience plays in driving discovery in an academic library, and what the prominence of convenience in the users' mindset signifies for further interface development and delivery.
