British National Formulary offers free resource access to 'African Mercy' ship medical staff -

The British National Formulary (BNF) has announced its support to international charity Mercy Ships by providing free access to its medical information resources. BNF seeks to provide UK healthcare professionals with authoritative and practical information on the selection and clinical use of medicines.

Mercy Ships provides free medical care and humanitarian aid to some of the world's poorest people, and operates the world's largest charity hospital ship, the Africa Mercy, currently docked in Sierra Leone. The ship, a former Danish rail ferry, is staffed by an international crew of volunteers from over 40 nations ranging from seamen and engineers to surgeons, doctors and nurses.

BNF medical information resources and advice will be easily accessible for medical staff working on the Africa Mercy via Medicines Complete, a reference shelf published by Pharmaceutical Press. Through the Medicines Complete weblink, volunteers will be able to access BNF, BNF for Children and a host of other resources such as Stockley in order to support their work.

The BNF, a joint publication of the British Medical Association and the Royal Pharmaceutical Society, is used daily by over 200,000 health professionals, with an updated version published every six months. It is projected as an up-to-date resource, for rapid reference by practicing healthcare professionals, which encourages sensible, cost-effective and safe use of medicines.

The BNF is available in print, on the Internet at http://bnf.org in digital formats suitable for standalone computers, intranets, for use on mobile devices, and as part of the Medicines Complete collection of drug and healthcare reference resources.
