Professional association IEEE, US, has announced about four IEEE 11073 standards-development projects intended to expand support for plug-and-play, interoperable medical-device communications.
The projects, when approved by the IEEE Standards Association (IEEE-SA) Standards Board as official standards, will join a growing suite of standards designed to help healthcare product vendors and integrators create devices and systems for disease management, health and fitness and independent living.
The projects are IEEE P11703-10419 "Draft Standard for Health informatics—Personal health device communication—Device specialization—Insulin pump"; IEEE P11073-10441 Revision "Draft Standard for Health informatics—Personal health device communication—Part 10441: Device specialization—Cardiovascular fitness and activity monitor"; IEEE P11073-10404 Revision "Draft Standard for Health informatics—Personal health device communication—Device specialization—Pulse oximeter"; and IEEE P11073-10413 "Draft Standard for Health informatics—Personal health device communication—Device specialization—Respiration rate monitor".
