IT research and analysis service InformationWeek Analytics, US, has announced the release of its latest research report titled 'Application Mobilization: A Rapidly Changing Landscape'. The report assesses current trends as mobile apps become increasingly strategic tools for companies competing in the global environment. Nearly 700 business technology professionals responded to a survey conducted by InformationWeek Analytics. Report author Peter Rysavy is a leading consultant in wireless technology and president of Rysavy Research.

According to the report, mobile applications are becoming critical for companies trying to improve employee efficiency and customer service and sharpen their competitive edge in today's global markets. More that 25 percent of survey respondents reported widespread adoption of mobile applications throughout their enterprises. Fifty two percent of poll respondents said that their companies are currently deploying, or planning to deploy, mobile apps on smartphones, up from 42 percent in 2009.

For mobile platforms, BlackBerry led the pack with 57 percent, followed by iPhone with 35 percent, Google Android with 27 percent and Windows Mobile with 22 percent. About 50 percent of respondents claimed that they are willing to develop their own enterprise mobile applications. Of respondents who said their companies are not deploying mobile apps, 42 percent cited a lack of business benefit as the biggest reason.
