Research and advisory firm Outsell, Inc., US, has released a new report that seeks to offer a global view of the entire book market. The report, titled 'Worldwide e-books market size and forecast report, 2009-2012,' defines the worldwide print book and e-book market, subdivided into three broad categories: education, professional and consumer. It looks to explore the underlying dynamics across these markets and sizes and forecasts the current print and e-book opportunity across each.
In doing so, Outsell claims to provide the first worldwide view of this entire market. The report discusses how the landscape for e-books is unfolding across all content types. It explores the potential revenue opportunities for all publishers targeting this space; sizes the worldwide market for books in terms of revenue generated from retail sales of this content to end-users; provides detailed estimated total and e-book revenue for the top 10 publishers in each book category; and offers market forecast in each category for print and e-books in each region of the world.
According to the report, despite all the attention on e-books today, they only accounted for 5.2 percent of worldwide book sales in 2010. By the end of 2013, however, Outsell predicts the worldwide share for e-books to rise to 16.1 percent.
