The Public Library Association (PLA), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), has released the free archive recording of the 90-minute webinar, 'E-Book Action: Inform and Inspire Your Community.' Projected as an informative webinar, it is said to offer inspiring case studies and practical tips to reach out to community members to not only explain why libraries have limited e-book collections but also enlist their help in improving e-book access.
The webinar consists of three presentations that highlight distinct initiatives. These include Kansas State Library's Facebook—Big Six E-Books in Libraries, presented by Jo Budler, state librarian, Kansas State Library; and Pierce County (Wash) Library System's grassroots postcard and e-mail campaign, Scrooged, shared by Lisa Bitney, reading and materials director and Mary Getchell, marketing and community relations director, both of Pierce County Library System. Also included is the work of the ALA Digital Content and Libraries Working Group, highlighting the free E-Book Media and Communications Kit, presented by Larra Clark, director, Program on Networks, ALA Office for Information Technology Policy (OITP) and Vailey Oehlke, director of Libraries, Multnomah (Ore) County.
