NHS Education for Scotland launches The Knowledge Network -

The NHSScotland eLibrary, owned and managed by NHS Education for Scotland (NES) since 2003, has been re-launched as The Knowledge Network. Nicola Sturgeon, Cabinet Secretary for Health and Wellbeing, launched the online service at the annual NHSScotland Conference.

The Knowledge Network will include a 'Google-style' search engine with access to 11 million learning and information resources from over 100 providers and partners in NHS, education, voluntary sector and commercial and local authority sectors. The network aims to save staff time and bring online resources together in one place. It also provides communities, teams, and partner organisations with a suite of technology tools and shared content which they can use to create online knowledge services to meet their own needs.

According to the Scottish government, the resource has been designed to support the information needs of the health and social care workforce. It goes beyond the traditional 'library' service of books and journals to support evidence based practice, the sharing of knowledge and experience, and eLearning. By providing equitable access to knowledge across the health and care workforce, the network seeks to support implementation of the Knowledge and Skills Framework, providing resources to meet the learning needs of all NHS staff.
