STM publisher Elsevier, Netherlands, has announced that a recent special edition of the journal Fungal Biology Reviews features 76 videos, which together claim to comprise the most comprehensive collection of fungal cell biology movies ever published. Fungal Biology Reviews is published by Elsevier on behalf of the British Mycological Society.
The movies were produced by Professor Gero Steinberg of the University of Exeter, UK, who is a renowned researcher in the field of fungal cell biology.
The editors of the journal and special issue, Nick D. Read and Geoffrey D. Robson, expect the collection to become a primary teaching resource in the field. The contribution by Steinberg and Schuster is part of a special issue with key note and plenary papers from the 9th International Mycological Congress (IMC9) held in Edinburgh in August of 2010. Many of the leaders in the field, including John Taylor of the University of California and Joseph Heitman of Duke University, contributed to this publication featuring expert review articles and written versions of the inspirational plenary lectures that were given at the 2010 congress.
In line with its mission to contribute to the progress and application of science, Elsevier has made the entire issue, including all video material, publicly available on Science Direct until 2012 at http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/journal/17494613
Fungal Biology Reviews seeks to provide a forum for high quality review, research update, opinion and technical focus articles in the field. It covers all areas of fungal biology, whether fundamental or applied, including fungal diversity, ecology, evolution, physiology and ecophysiology, biochemistry, genetics and molecular biology, cell biology, interactions (symbiosis, pathogenesis etc), environmental aspects, biotechnology and taxonomy. It considers aspects of all organisms historically or recently recognised as fungi, including lichen-fungi, microsporidia, oomycetes, slime moulds, stramenopiles, and yeasts.
