The Association of Learned and Professional Society Publishers (ALPSP) is organising a half day meeting in London on January 18, 2012, titled 'ePub3 and HTML5 - what you need to know right now'. The update will be chaired by Steve Paxhia, Chairman of the Board, Jouve NA. Other speakers include: Nic Gibson, Corbas Consulting, Digital Publishing Consultancy & Training; and Arnaud Cordelier, VP Editorial and Publishing Sales France, Jouve.
ePub3 and HTML5 are the de facto standard formats for preparing content for delivery to the multiple mobile devices available to readers and researchers. Some elements are just for the techies but there is also much of relevance to scholarly and educational publishers. New formats open up new opportunities for publishing, displaying information and interacting with the reader. This half day briefing will give a practical overview of the features and possibilities that ePub3 and HTML5 can offer the academic publisher. It will also examine the issues and limitations that publishers need to be aware of.
Publishers working in editorial and digital production who have responsibility for content development as well as those keen to explore the potential of ePub3 and HTML5 can benefit from this meeting. According to the ALPSP, this is not a technical briefing but a practical update for publishers who need to understand the key features of these two standards and their relevance to their organisation's publishing business.
