Finland to host 2010 ICSTI Annual Conference -

International Council for Scientific and Technical Information (ICSTI) has announced that the 2010 ICSTI Annual Conference will take place in Helsinki, Finland, on June 10 and 11, 2010. The conference will bring together a large group of the sector's top names and decision-makers. The conference's Finnish organisers are Tietoasiantuntijat ry (The Finnish Information Specialists), VTT Technical Research Center of Finland and The National Board of Patents and Registration Finland NBPR.

'From Information to Innovation' has been chosen as the main theme of the conference. The topic is current, as information and its management have a growing significance as accelerators of scientific, technological and commercial development.

The competitive environment of research and business is continuously changing. The information environment is seen to be expanding and becoming more fragmented. It is becoming more difficult to distinguish reliable and high-class information from the enormous information flow available. Creating innovations will be more open, and practices keep changing in generating, distributing, receiving and utilising information. This conference and exhibition seeks to provide inspiration for a new mind-set and examples of the tools for future success.

A discussion on the topic will be initiated by Finnish and international decision-makers in the sector. Finnish expertise is represented by Sitra's ombudsman Mikko Kosonen, who will discuss the significance of information usage and strategic agility in today's fast-changing world. VTT's President and CEO Erkki KM Leppavuori on the other hand will contemplate the role of information from the viewpoint of multi-technological research center and its customers. Also Senior Vice President, Global Technology at KONE Corporation Jussi Oijala will take the stand and concentrate on the challenges and opportunities brought along by opening up of the innovation process towards partners and suppliers as well as towards customers and end-users.

The one-and-a-half day conference programme will also feature Adam Bly from Seed Media Group; Jay Katzen from Elsevier Science & Technology division; R. Sivadas from Scope e-Knowledge Center; Tony Hey from Microsoft Research; and Hee-Yoon Choi from Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information as keynote speakers.
