The International Publishers Association (IPA) has announced the appointment of José Borghino as Policy Director, effective March 11, 2013.
In the newly created position, Borghino's responsibilities will include enriching IPA's lobbying activities towards international organisations and NGOs, as well as consulting and communicating with publishing industry representatives around the world about those lobbying campaigns; managing and developing the IPA's activities promoting educational publishing, including the IPA Educational Publishers Forum; and advising member associations on national policy issues and effective communications strategies.
Borghino will report to IPA Secretary General Jens Bammel and will be based at the IPA's headquarters in Geneva. He comes to the IPA from the Australian Publishers Association where he served as Manager of Industry Representation. His previous professional roles include lecturer in journalism and creative industries at the University of Sydney, editor of the online news magazine NewMatilda.com, executive director of the Australian Society of Authors, and senior positions at the Literature Board of the Australia Council.
