The International Federation of Medical Students' Associations (IFMSA) recently announced its membership in the Right to Research Coalition. Right to Research Coalition is an international alliance of undergraduate and graduate student organisations that promotes a more open scholarly publishing system through advocacy and education.
Based in Amsterdam, IFMSA is one of the world's leading student organisations, representing over 1.2 million medical students. The federation aims to serve medical students all over the world. Starting this month, IFMSA will begin working with the coalition's 30 other member organisations to promote a more open scholarly publishing system by educating students about Open Access and advocating for policies that expand access to the results of research.
Founded in 2009, the Right to Research Coalition has expanded rapidly into an international alliance of student organisations representing a wide variety of disciplines. With IFMSA, the members of the Right to Research Coalition now represent nearly 7 million students throughout the world and continue to grow as a powerful force in expanding access to research.
