The Board of the BMJ Group has named Professor Sir Ian Gilmore as a non-executive director.
Sir Ian Gilmore has just demitted office as President of the Royal College of Physicians after four years and is President-elect of the British Society of Gastroenterology. He is a consultant physician and gastroenterologist with particular interest in liver disease at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital where he was medical director for four years. He chairs the Alcohol Health Alliance UK and was a commissioner for the recent review of the social determinants of health chaired by Sir Michael Marmot.
This appointment will enable the BMJ Group to benefit from Sir Ian's expertise in working within the NHS. He also brings a wealth of international experience in key overseas markets.
