Thomson Reuters launches new breed of research management system for universities -

Business information provider Thomson Reuters, US, has announced the launch of Research In View, a new breed of research management system that will provide universities with a comprehensive and timely view of institutional performance.

Thomson Reuters Research In View is an enterprise-wide solution that aggregates and standardises data from disparate sources to provide a unified database and analytic interface for managing, searching and reporting on university activities and performance. The new solution will draw on university and faculty specific data in combination with the unique information assets of Thomson Reuters, including Web of Knowledge, conference proceedings, grants and patent information, creating a unified and up-to-date view of activities across the university.

By providing a single point of access to multiple data sources the solution not only reduces the burden of data entry, it also streamlines regular search and reporting tasks. Key features of the solution include outcome-based reporting to manage the full scope of scholarship activities more effectively, and data exporting enabling faculty to create grant biosketch documents and interactive CVs. In addition, Research In View supports internal and public searching to identify areas of expertise and increase the opportunity for collaborative teaching and research activities.

Research in View was developed by the Research Analytics business at Thomson Reuters in consultation with university administrators' worldwide. It builds on the work done at The Ohio State University to develop and implement OSU:pro - a faculty profiling system.

The Research Analytics business of Thomson Reuters offers a continuum of products, tools, and services supporting strategic research decisions and the evaluation and management of research. In addition to Research In View, this suite of solutions includes the recently launched InCites as well as other tools and services fuelled by content from Web of Knowledge and ScienceWire, a global platform for aggregating content and relating people, products, organisations, and outcomes.
