Vital Source Technologies, Inc., part of Ingram Content Group Inc, US, and textbook rental firm Chegg, US, have announced a comprehensive e-textbook programme to complement Chegg's traditional physical textbook rentals.
The new e-textbook programme from Chegg will allow students the option to purchase or rent digital books. Ingram's Vital Source, with 1.6 million registered users and a presence on 6,000 campuses in 180 countries, will power Chegg's digital textbook option. Vital Source is currently delivering tens of thousands of titles from the world's leading textbook publishers, including Elsevier, Pearson, Cengage, Macmillan, John Wiley and Sons, McGraw-Hill, Wolters Kluwer, Oxford University Press, Taylor & Francis, and many others.
The agreement with Chegg follows Vital Source's recent June 2011 acquisition of VPG Integrated Media, a developer of enhanced e-textbook and interactive applications. Ingram's Vital Source business unit, experiencing dramatic growth in both the number of users and institutions, recently added DeVry University to its prestigious list of institutions using its solutions.
