The US' National Technical Information Service (NTIS) has announced the availability of a biweekly information dissemination product - NTIS-Selected Research Service (NTIS-SRS). The service has been developed as a new means for the distribution of federally produced scientific and technical information.
NTIS-SRS is said to be of particular interest to corporate and special libraries as it provides subscribers the ability to specify information content by 39 primary subject categories and 378 subcategories. The stated benefits of the product include full-text PDF of Federal Technical Reports; bibliographic metadata in XML and HTML formats for every included report; and information content available by secure FTP. It is also said to offer biweekly information content available for up to 30 days on FTP server; automatic notifications distributed by e-mail to subscribers of new information content available; bi-weekly content conveniently packaged in a single zip file; and information content from a variety of federal sources including but not limited to, the Department of Defense, National Aeronautics and Space Administration and the Environmental Protection Agency.
The NTIS is the federal government's central source for the sale of scientific, technical, engineering and related business information produced by or for the US government. About 3 million products are available in a variety of formats: electronic download, online access, computer products, multimedia, microfiche and paper.
