Allen Press offers webinar series on best practices for editorial offices -

Publishing services provider Allen Press, Inc., US, has announced that it will host its third webinar series, Best Practices and Innovative Solutions, designed for the staff of scholarly and professional publishers. Six one-hour online webinars will be presented monthly beginning June 15 and ending November 16.

The first webinar, Member Retention, will take place on June 15. It will cover helpful tips for member retention including how to create compelling member benefits, get members involved, and improve communication and networking. It also explores strategies for recruiting and retaining first-time members.

The second webinar is scheduled for July 20. Titled 'Securing the Future: Archiving Services in Scholarly Publishing,' the webinar will examine how your publication fits into a new paradigm for archiving. Attendees will learn the difference between light and dark archives and explore special initiatives and digital archiving services available to scholarly publishers.

The third webinar, Enhancing and Differentiating Online Journal Content, will take place on August 17. Whether you already have an online journal edition or are just beginning to consider going online, this webinar will offer helpful advice on how to keep readers engaged online.

The fourth webinar, Advertising in STM Journals, will be held September 21and will explore the basic dos and don'ts to satisfy both advertisers and the editorial board. It will also discuss non-commercial advertising and explore the implication of print vs. online advertising.

The October 19 webinar topic will be Finding Quality Reviewers. The discussion will center on identifying new reviewers, tactics for keeping reviewers happy, encouraging quick yet quality reviews and best practices for matching the right reviewer to the right paper. New and veteran editors alike can benefit from this webinar.

The sixth and final webinar, set for November 16, will be Publication Ethics: Plagiarism, Misconduct and Retractions. Ethical misconduct in scholarly publishing is not merely a topic for theoretical examination. Real-world infractions require practical resolution. Editors, reviewers and journal staff will benefit from this opportunity to learn best practices for what to do when you suspect plagiarism or other misconduct as well as how to handle retractions.

The webinars will be led by Allen Press' experienced professional staff. All sessions will be held at 11:00 a.m. CDST. Twitter hashtags have been created for each webinar, and attendees will be encouraged to tweet during and after the events.
