On Friday, the third day of the Frankfurt Book Fair, scientific and medical publisher Karger announced a new online product, Pharma Collection, that aims to meet the needs and requirements of the pharmaceutical industry. It offers users the ability to create their own customised collection from Karger publications, or a customised collection with preferred subject areas. Karger also announced its e-books collection for 2011.
The Copyright Clearance Center (CCC) gave a presentation on leveraging technology to automate online licensing. The presentation discussed how leading publishers are leveraging web-based licensing solutions to generate high-margin revenue for the reuse of their content, improve customer staisfaction and enhance their author services programme. CCC also announced the launch of Rights Direct, its new European subsidiary.
Also, Focus Medica and Expanded Apps announced the launch of the Animated Medica Atlas, an application made for iPhones and iPads. Developed for physicians and pharma executives, the application is reportedly enriched with links to more information on the web, note-taking functionality and transcripts. Focus Medica has also recently launched an Animated Medical & Health dictionary.
Jouve, a European service provider specialising in digital and print content management and publishing services, announced Colibri, a collaborative tool that assists publishers with page layout management and typesetting requirements. Jouve also launched LETO, an educational platform that allows teachers to easily prepare lessons for classroom environments. Using an intuitive, plug-and-play platform, teachers can use LETO to prepare lessons containing images, videos, maps, etc.
