Frankfurt Book Fair begins -

The 62nd annual Frankfurt Book Fair kicked off on Wednesday. According to fair director Jürgen Boos, more than 7,500 exhibitors from 111 countries are expected this year, posting a three-percent increase over the previous year.

A new feature of the 2010 Frankfurt Book Fair is its Hot Spots - informative presentations around the various Book Fair venues about technology and publishing/media. The opening day's Hot Spots in the STM and Academic Publishing and Education Hall featured a number of presentations on eBooks and ePubs, covering both the production/technology aspects as well as end user, demand and business aspects. There were also interesting sessions about the delivery of content on mobile devices, focusing not only today's devices, like the iPad, but offering insights on monetising content as mobile technology changes.

A presentation on how digital technology is impacting the '21st Century Classroom', was especially of interest to the education publishing sector. A CEO roundtable, which focused on 'everyday leadership in extraordinary times', debated the challenges and opportunities facing educational publishing companies.
