The Frankfurt Book Fair has announced that New Zealand will be the Guest of Honour at nkfurt Book Fair 2012, scheduled for October 10 - 14, 2012. Director of the Frankfurt Book Fair, Juergen Boos, and Chief Executive of New Zealand's Ministry for Culture and Heritage, Lewis Holden, signed a contract to this effect.
The New Zealand Society of Authors (PEN NZ Inc) has 1,300 members and claims to be very active. Around 2,000 new titles enter the market each year. The Publishers Association of New Zealand includes around 80 New Zealand publishers, which together generate about 550 million euros in annual sales. In 2007, taken as a whole, New Zealand's cultural sector was worth about seven billion euros. New Zealand, after Ireland and India, will be the third english-speaking Guest of Honour of the Frankfurt Book Fair.
The Frankfurt Book Fair claims to be biggest book and media fair in the world - with around 7,500 exhibitors from over 110 countries. It also organises the participation of German publishers at around 20 international book fairs. It maintains the most visited website worldwide for the publishing industry at www.book-fair.com and its directory of decision-makers in the book and media industries features around 31,000 contacts.
Frankfurt SPARKS, the Frankfurt Book Fair's digital initiative, unites the industry's digital products and projects under one roof, with the aim of bringing together content and technology. The Frankfurt Book Fair is a subsidiary of the German Publishers & Booksellers Association.
