Wolters Kluwer Health convenes expert panel to explore impact of evidence-based medicine on Canada’s healthcare system -

Wolters Kluwer Health, a global provider of information for healthcare professionals and students, brought together a panel of distinguished physician administrators from Canada's leading healthcare institutions for a series of regional seminars that explored the impact of evidence-based medicine on the country's healthcare system. Entitled 'Advancing the Practice of Evidence-Based Medicine - The Role of Clinical Decision Support in Improving Patient Outcomes,' the invitation-only seminar series took place in Montreal, Toronto and Halifax November 11-14, 2013.

Panelists shared with hospital executives and clinicians their firsthand experience on how the combination of evidence-based clinical decision support, electronic health records, and clinical best practices is being used to standardise treatment and improve care.

David Rind, MD, Co-Executive Editor, UpToDate at Wolters Kluwer Health, Clinical Solutions, was joined on the panel by Dr. Luc Valiquette, Chief Clinical Officer of the Technological Transition at the Centre Hospitalier de l'Université de Montréal; Dr. John Machado, Managing Director of the Complexe Desjardins Urban Medical Centre and Health Technology Vitrine in Montréal; Dr. Jeremy Theal, Chief Medical Information Officer and a gastroenterologist at Toronto's North York General Hospital and physician lead on the hospital's "eCare" project, which has won national and international awards for its use of health IT to improve the quality and safety of patient care; Dr. Candice Silversides, Head of Obstetric Medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital, Director of Research at the Toronto Congenital Cardiac Centre for Adults; and Mary-Ann Hiltz, Vice-President, Strategy & Organizational Performance at the IWK Health Centre in Halifax.
