Open access publisher BioMed Central, UK, has announced that the Journal of Ethnobiology and Ethnomedicine is currently inviting research submissions to a thematic series on 'Local knowledge: Who cares?'. Rainer Bussmann of Missouri Botanical Garden; Ulysses P. de Albuquerque of Federal Rural University of Pernambuco; Andrea Pieroni of University of Gastronomic Sciences; Victoria Reyes-García of University of Barcelona; and Ina Vandebroek of New York Botanical Garden will be the editors for the thematic series.
'Local knowledge: Who cares?' will be published in 2011 and is focused on the potential and established value of ethnobiological and ethnomedical knowledge and its associated plant and animal resources for local communities and society at large.
Articles that address this subject from a critical and innovative perspective not yet thoroughly discussed in the ethnoscience literature are especially welcomed. Topics covered in this series include (but are not limited to) the importance of local knowledge for local health and nutrition; conservation and natural resources management; human rights; cultural heritage; and education. Original research consisting of case studies (especially if they are comparative) as well as review articles will be considered.
The deadline for submissions is April 1, 2011.
