The Frankfurt Book Fair, scheduled for October 8-12, 2014, will expand its activities in Brazil in 2014 to include the CONTEC Brasil conference series, which will take place in various states throughout the country. The first conference will be held on February 18, 2014 in Sesc Vila Mariana, São Paulo. An additional CONTEC conference will take place in Canoas/Rio Grande del Sul on February 20, 2014 in cooperation with the education ministry of Rio Grande do Sul. Further CONTEC Brasil events will be organised throughout the year in major Brazilian cities.
With a focus on “Content in Action”, this conference series will highlight innovative learning methods, interactive teaching formats and the latest strategies for incorporating digital tools into the learning process. While reading is still the undisputed key to getting a good education and gaining cultural insight, methods for exchanging knowledge have already experienced a paradigm shift. The book in its printed form is no longer the number one medium for acquiring knowledge; instead, new technologies now offer opportunities to create individualised learning experiences and results at all stages of the learning process – from pre-school to adult education.
CONTEC Brasil in São Paulo will address many of these developments. In his keynote “Content (R)evolution”, Michael Ross, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Education, Encyclopaedia Britannica, will present an international roadmap for the latest trends in education. In a discussion entitled “Does new always mean better”? Heather Crossley, Publisher of Ladybird (Penguin UK); Colin Lovrinovic, International Digital Sales Manager at Bastei Lübbe; and Udi Chatow, Worldwide Business Development Manager for Education at Hewlett-Packard, will examine how educational publishers and teachers can integrate new formats and technologies into their day-to-day work. The Argentinian publisher Octavio Kulesz (Editorial Teseo) will discuss infrastructure and the availability of digital content with David Sanchez from the Spanish e-book platform 24symbols. In his session, Udi Chatow of Hewlett-Packard will explore hybrid learning models.
