Media technology startup Mendeley, UK, has announced that as a result of its increasing popularity with academic and industry researchers in the US, the company has opened a new office in New York.
The company has witnessed strong growth in the US. Researchers from some of the world's leading institutions including Harvard, Columbia and Stanford, are reportedly using the Mendeley platform to improve their research process.
Used by more than 500,000 academics and industry researchers, Mendeley continues to gain traction globally. With more than 35 million indexed documents, the service is on track to become one of the world's largest research databases. Among a series of awards earned in Europe, Mendeley was most recently named 'Start-up Most Likely to Change the World for the Better' at the Guardian Activate 2010 Summit.
Mendeley's desktop software automatically extracts relevant information from documents, allowing researchers to organise a personal digital library as well as manage annotations and references effortlessly. Researchers can then tap into Mendeley's network and make their reading collections more widely accessible. By anonymously aggregating this usage data, Mendeley can identify real-time trends such as the most widely-read research.
