ARL to host Eighth Annual Leadership Symposium for master of library and information science -

The Association of Research Libraries (ARL) has announced that it will host its Eighth Annual Leadership Symposium for master of library and information science (MLIS) students on January 21 and 22, 2012, in Dallas, TX. The Leadership Symposium curriculum will focus on topics related to the major strategic areas of ARL, as well as transitioning into, and building career networks in research libraries.

The programme will include presentations from ARL programme officers and human resource professionals in ARL member libraries. Registration for this event is open to any MLIS student free of charge, but space is limited.

The Leadership Symposium is funded by ARL member institutions and the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). This annual event is a component of the ARL Diversity Programs and Leadership Initiatives, which include the Career Enhancement Program (CEP), Initiative to Recruit a Diverse Workforce (IRDW), the Leadership and Career Development Program (LCDP), and the Research Libraries Leadership Fellows (RLLF) programme.

The 2012 Leadership Symposium will feature presentations on such topics as current trends in information policy; emerging professional roles in research libraries; and the art and science of securing a position in an ARL library. Presenters for the event include Brandon Butler, ARL Director of Public Policy Initiatives; Joan Lippincott, Associate Executive Director of the Coalition for Networked Information (CNI); and Martha Kyrillidou, Senior Director, ARL Statistics and Service Quality Programs.
