Global healthcare information provider Wolters Kluwer Health has announced that UpToDate, its leading clinical decision support resource, is helping the prominent Japanese healthcare association, JADECOM (Japan Association for Development of Community Medicine), meet the diverse needs of nearly 2,000 medical professionals delivering medical care in communities around the country.
Supporting communities that face challenging medical situations, JADECOM serves as a resource to generalists and nurses who are essential to community medicine across the country. JADECOM has grown steadily since its beginning, and now operates hospitals and clinics in all parts of Japan, including seven teaching hospitals, 18 hospitals, five geriatric health services facilities, 21 clinics, nine complex facilities and two nursing schools.
JADECOM leaders recognised the need for a comprehensive clinical decision support solution that reached all clinicians, regardless of where they practice. The majority of physicians and the larger medical facilities tend to be located in larger cities. However, the medical facilities located in isolated mountains or island regions often face limited access to clinical information and a serious shortage of doctors.
After trying several online medical resources to support their physicians, JADECOM continued to look for a comprehensive, evidence-based clinical decision support solution that could be used not only at point of care, but for clinical education purposes. JADECOM adopted UpToDate in April 2012 and since then has provided almost 2,000 physicians and paramedics with continuously updated evidence-based clinical knowledge and recommendations.
