Medical information provider BMJ Group, UK, has announced the appointment of Dr James Cave, a practising GP in Newbury, Berkshire, as the new editor in chief of The Drug and Therapeutics Bulletin (DTB). The position of editor in chief is a first for the recently redesigned and expanded title, which celebrates its 50th birthday this year.
Dr Cave comes to DTB from GP Update, which produces resources to keep family doctors abreast of new research and guidance on relevant issues. He was officially appointed in March, but took up the post last month after a spell in Nepal working with the Gurkha Welfare Trust.
A key innovator in professional learning and development for family doctors, Dr Cave was behind the black book website, an evidence based website for other GPs and patients. Its section on the triple jab, MMR, was ranked fifth in Google during the height of the MMR controversy in the UK in 2005..
Among his many accomplishments, Dr Cave is a medical advisor to bereavement charity CRUSE, and a member of Human Writes, a charity that befriends inmates on Death Row in the USA.
A monthly publication, DTB provides rigorous evaluations of, and practical advice on, individual treatments and the overall management of disease for doctors, pharmacists and other healthcare professionals. It is wholly independent of the pharmaceutical industry, government and regulatory authorities. It carries no advertising or other forms of commercial sponsorship.
