Aurora Health Care, a non-profit healthcare network, has launched its own medical journal - Journal of Patient-Centered Research and Reviews. The organisation now joins Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic, Marshfield Clinic and other health systems that also publish journals.
The new journal will reportedly help draw attention to the research done at Aurora, potentially increasing its profile within the scientific community.
Aurora, which claims to be the largest health system in the state, participates in over 750 clinical research projects. That includes about 450 clinical trials paid for by pharmaceutical and medical device companies. Others are research projects initiated by Aurora doctors and scientists and funded by companies, federal grants and foundations.
The journal will be published four times a year. It will have review articles, which summarise research in an area, as well as original research. Each issue will have a theme. The first issue focused on melanoma. The journal will be aimed largely at practicing physicians.
