London Book Fair begins, digital publishing plays key role at this year’s fair -

The annual London Book Fair kicked off April 8, 2014. With digital publishing playing a leading role at this year's fair, Tech Central in EC2 was a bustling hub during the 1st day of the London Book Fair 2014. The digital conversation once again showcased very well the impact of technology throughout the book business. Presentations from several vendors and publishers opened the minds of its audience. The presentations covered topics ranging from the selling of ebooks through to managing the digitisation process.

Big Data was again discussed asking questions like "Should Publishers Care?" – Is it the next big hype! Business has always run on data – in publishing, sales data has always been important to decision making, But beneath the hype about new data, is there new value? James Lichtenburg President of Light Speed, LLC – New York provided an insight into this topic.

Additionally, Portland Press Ltd announced their move to the HighWire Open Platform – "Since the Biochemical Journal began over 100 years ago, Portland Press Ltd's publications have gone from strength to strength while adapting to technology changes", noted Tom Rump, Managing Director of HighWire.
