Journals Archives of Public Health and Nutrition Journal, published by BioMed Central, are inviting submissions for a new thematic series entitled 'the nutrition transition, a global public health problem'.
Diets in the Western world began to shift in the 1970's towards increased reliance upon processed foods. The same changes also appeared in the low and middle income world in the early 1990's but did not become clearly recognized until diabetes, hypertension and obesity began to dominate the globe. This nutrition transition is rooted in the processes of globalisation, therefore understanding the links between globalization and the nutrition transition can help policy makers develop policies addressing the global burden of chronic disease.
The journals are seeking original manuscripts, review papers and policy papers addressing topics such as measurement of the nutrition transition and its global public health impact; links between the nutrition transition and health outcomes; the role of the nutrition transition in the global obesity pandemic; measurement of the double burden of malnutrition in various continents; and interventions and policies to stop the nutrition transition and its global public health impact.
The deadline for submissions is June 30, 2014. Interested parties may submit via the online submission system to either Archives of Public Health or Nutrition Journal. When submitting, please indicate 'the nutrition transition' in your cover letter.
