International, peer-reviewed scientific journal Rheumatology has announced the appointment of Prof. Jacob van Laar as the new editor. Prof. van Laar will take over from the current editor Prof. Robert Moots.
Throughout his five years as editor for the journal Prof. Moots has been dynamic, introducing several changes and raising the profile of the journal internationally. His work includes ensuring a fast turnaround time for submitted papers, which has remained consistent at an average of 25 days, as well as overseeing changes to the journal's layout such as the well-recognised gold cover to celebrate 50 volumes of the journal.
Prof. van Laar is a Professor of Clinical Rheumatology at Newcastle University and Honorary Consultant Rheumatologist at the James Cook University in Middlesborough. He is the chairman of the EBMT / EULAR Scleroderma study group and the clinical lead for the County Durham and Tees Valley Comprehensive Local Research Network musculoskeletal and immunology and inflammation areas. He has published over 150 peer-reviewed reports and 17 book chapters, and edited a recently published rheumatology textbook.
Rheumatology is published by Oxford University Press on behalf of the British Society for Rheumatology.
