Non-profit scientific publisher IOP Publishing (IOP), UK, has announced the launch of the Biomedical Physics & Engineering Express (BPEX) journal. The journal will join IOP's rapidly growing family of biomedical titles.
BPEX will be a broad, inclusive, rapid-review journal that will cover all areas of biomedical engineering, biophysics and medical physics, with a special emphasis on the interdisciplinary work within these areas to help promote crossover research.
The journal will be led by Founding Editor Professor Robert Jeraj of the University of Wisconsin. Professor Jeraj's extensive body of work in medical physics and his dedication to forging connections between this discipline, biophysics and biomedical engineering makes him ideally suited to this role. Alongside the IOP journal management team, he is now in the process of building an international network of board members, authors and reviewers.
BPEX will consider direct submissions and also articles transferred from other relevant titles. The transfer process gives authors the choice to preserve and transfer the initial peer review commentaries along with their article to the new journal, and thereby offers the prospect of rapid decision-making, while saving authors, reviewers and editors valuable time.
The journal team are now actively commissioning the first content for the journal and will be available to meet prospective contributors at the Biophysical Society Annual Meeting (Baltimore, 7 February 2015), and at the IUPESM World Congress in Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering (Toronto, June 2015).
As part of the journal's launch phase, all content will be free to read for individual users, universities and academic research institutes throughout 2015. The journal will also offer open access publishing options.
