American Society of Parasitologists relaunches Journal of Parasitology with eliminated page charges -

The American Society of Parasitologists (ASP) has eliminated page charges for members publishing in the society's journal, The Journal of Parasitology (JP). Beginning in January 2019, ASP will relaunch the journal for its second century of publication with a complete revision of its policies, charges, and distribution. 2019 will also bring a new publishing workflow that features continuous online publication and a reduction in the number of printed issues.

As the official journal of ASP, JP now states in its instructions to authors: 'There are no page charges when the corresponding author is a member of ASP at the time of publication.' Non-member authors will pay $75 per page, but are encouraged to become members of the society. Membership is available at various levels and with one-year and three-year options. With more than 700 members worldwide from industry, government, and academia, ASP is dedicated to the study and teaching of parasitology.

Articles will be posted online in their final, edited version. Systematic and taxonomic papers will thus comply with the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature so that new species names will be valid as soon as the articles are posted online. While the journal will continue to publish six online issues per year, print subscribers will receive the entire print volume in one mailing at the end of the year.

For more than a century, JP has published basic and applied research in the field of parasitology. In addition to taxonomic papers that name and describe new species, the journal also publishes the latest research in ecology, immunology, parasite life cycles, molecular biology, host-parasite interactions, and other disciplines.

The journal is published by ASP in conjunction with Allen Press, Inc., an industry leader in scholarly publishing services and management.
