The Association of Learned and Professional Society Publishers (ALPSP) and The PA will host a debate on the impact of Brexit on academic publishing at this year's Frankfurt Book Fair on October 20, 2016, 10:30 to 11:00 am, Publishing Perspectives Stage, Hall 6.0.
UK Publishing is a world leader in scientific and scholarly research, producing more cited research papers than any other country after the US. As a member of the EU, the UK has received £8bn funding for research from 2006 to 2015, making it the second largest recipient of research funds. With the UK set to leave the European Union, the impact on the publishing industry is still unknown. Speakers will be discussing this, and other implications for the publishers and learned societies in the UK and the broader impact for their businesses in Europe and globally.
Audrey McCulloch, CEO of ALPSP will introduce a panel including Richard Mollet of The RELX Group who will chair a conversation with Andy Robinson from Wiley and Richard Fisher, academic and policy correspondent.
They will consider what Brexit means for research funding in the UK as well as the broader implications for publishers and learned societies in the UK, Europe and globally.
