Non-profit scientific publisher IOP Publishing (IOP), UK, has announced that five of the company's research journals will become electronic only and will no longer print paper editions. This transition will take effect with the 2015 subscription year and affects Biofabrication, Bioinspiration & Biomimetics, Biomedical Materials, Journal of Breath Research and Physical Biology.
The move is the result of a decline in demand for the print editions of these journals while the number of electronic-only subscribers has significantly grown. This decision will enable the publisher to provide even better services to authors and readers by focusing solely on the development of the online journals.
IOP ensures the longevity of the digital version by depositing all journal content with Portico and CLOCKSS, both widely used, trusted third-party preservation resources.
Libraries that currently subscribe to the print and electronic versions of these journals will be offered an electronic-only renewal for 2015.
